I am delighted to endorse Larry Kunz for STC second vice-president. During the 1990s Larry and I worked closely on the STC board, and I found him to be the ideal boardmember. He was totally dependable. No matter how difficult the project was, Larry would get it done creatively and well. Those traits of vision and reliability are certainly rare in themselves, but even more valuable combined with Larry’s evenhandedness and diplomacy. I viewed him as one of STC’s most constructive leaders. To add to all that, Larry is a kind, generous person who makes those working with him feel good about their contributions. In short, I am convinced that he is the ideal person to lead the Society, and I urge STC members to vote for him.
James Conklin, President Cadence Human Systems and former STC director
I have known Larry Kunz through the STC for more than ten years, and I strongly support his candidacy for second vice-president. I have worked with Larry on strategic planning for the Society; I have participated on panel presentations that he has organized for the international conference; and I served with him on the international board of directors. He is smart, energetic, and committed to the success of the Society and its members. Perhaps most importantly, Larry is one of those rare individuals who “listens for direction.” He understands that leadership is a service that some are privileged to offer to a community, and is not a vehicle for acquiring personal power and control. Larry is open to new ideas; he works effectively with teams; and he has strong interpersonal skills. He is precisely the kind of leader that STC needs.
Diane Feldman, STC Associate Fellow
Larry Kunz merits your vote in his candidacy for STC’s 2nd Vice Presidency. Larry has served STC in a variety of leadership roles, each of which he has fulfilled with dedication and vision. As a fellow Carolina chapter member, I can attest that Larry’s contributions to the chapter have been as numerous, generously provided, and effective as his contributions to the Society.
One of Larry’s primary goals for his service at the helm of the Society is to identify the unique body of knowledge, established culture, and ethical principles that define the technical communication profession. He believes that defining our profession in this way is essential to proving our value and telling our powerful story. Every member who is concerned about the recognition of the technical communication profession and committed to the value we provide will do well to vote for Larry Kunz.
Bonni Graham, CEO Manual Labour and former STC Director
Larry Kunz will be an ideal STC president. His extensive Society experience means he's familiar with the issues our profession faces, and his ideas and visions support effective goals for our organization.
Michael Harvey, STC Associate Fellow and Carolina Chapter President
I met Larry Kunz almost 20 years ago, when I first joined the STC Carolina chapter, and he was its President. We got to know each other through our work for the Durham Technical Community College Technical Writing Program, where I was an instructor and he was on the advisory board. Over the years, I came to appreciate Larry's professionalism, high standards, intelligence, and dedication to our profession. I seek and value his counsel on a range of professional issues. The quality of his written work speaks for itself. During his third term as President of our chapter, it was recognized as a Community of Excellence. He is an active Immediate Past President for our chapter, generous with his time and advice.
I understand and endorse Larry's vision for STC. We ought to run STC more "like a business," instilling a strong customer-orientation to every activity. STC provides real value to its members, so it should more effectively communicate that value to members and to prospective members. STC needs to channel the power of its international scope to help employers recognize the value that technical communication professionals bring to the table. Larry Kunz can provide STC the leadership to accomplish these goals.
Annette D. Reilly, STC Fellow and Past President
As a longtime STC member, I urge you to consider voting for Larry Kunz, STC Fellow and Director, for STC 2nd Vice President. Larry has done his usual excellent work in describing his qualifications, way of working, and perspective, both on the STC candidates' site and on his own site. All I can add is that you can trust his judgment, imagination, tact, and insight. I have known Larry for twenty years, while he has worked to improve the value of STC as a chapter president, director, manager of strategic planning, assistant to the president, and member of the executive director search committee. He also has built a distinguished record as a communicator and leader in his technical work. He has the experience and vision to lead STC through changing times. As members we will do well to select Larry Kunz.
Daniel Voss, STC Fellow
I strongly endorse Larry Kunz' candidacy for second vice-president. I've had a number of occasions to work with Larry on Society-level projects, including the Professionalism, Certification, and Strategic Planning committees. Larry not only has exceptional depth and breadth in our profession, he is a proven leader with a unique blend of organizational ability and diplomacy that allows him to weld divergent opinions into a productive consensus. Never has the Society faced a greater need for this skill. We will benefit enormously if we select Larry for this position.
